Asset Management

Asset management is a relatively new profession. Prior to its emergence, hotels were usually owned by an individual or a small group of investors. If the owners were unfamiliar with the hotel industry, they would hire a management company to operate the hotel on a day to day basis and perform the asset management function themselves. With the growth of passive hotel investors during the 1970's and 1980's, the need arose for asset managers. Asset management is fundamentally about managing an investment to ensure that the owner's objectives are achieved.
